Immigration record found on ancestry.com Jacques Schneider 39 born abt 1849 Germany left port Le Havre France, destined for New York, and arrived in New York 15 Oct 1888, abroad the ship Le Bourgogne. Other family members were Marie 39, Jean 11 male, ____ 8, ___ 7, Bartholomew 4. Believe the 8 yr old was John ‘Nick’ and the 7 year old was John ‘Peter’.

He was the son of Johann Adam Schneider 1816-1883 and Cahtherine Schuver 1812-1870. He was married Jan 1877 at Obergailbach, Moselle, Lorraine, France to Marie Hemmert. Marie Hemmert was born 24 Dec 1850 Obergailbach, Moselle, Lorraine, France and died 2 Jun 1938 Eagle Lake, Blue Earth, MN. Her parents were Jacques Hemmer 1813-1878 and Catherine Heydinger 1822- .
CHILDREN: of Jacob and Marie Schneider, As listed in the Ancestry family record. Seems the children died elsewhere other than Sioux County IA found no obits locally. The children moved away from the Alton Iowa area.
1.John Schneider born 1 Dec 1877 Wiesviller, Moselle, Lorraine, France. Died Texas, USA?. In the 1900 census he was 22 yrs, born Dec 1877 Germany lived in East Orange Tsp Sioux County.
The 1930 and 1940 census has John Schneider born about 1878 Germany was single living in Dale, O’Brien County IA as a farmer, he had come to USA in 1888. In the obit of mother Marie Schneider is mentioned that she had a son John living at Primghar Iowa. The Alton Democrat of Oct 30 1947 has the Land Sale of John Schneider in O’Brien County state that John will be moving out of state. OBITUARIES
Altom Democrat of March 25, 1899
Jacob Schneider, one of the esteemed and respected citizens of this community, died last Sunday night at 11 o'clock at his home four miles east of town. He had been ill for about two weeks suffering with the asthma. Mr. Schneider was forty nine years of age at the time of his death and leaves a wife and four sons to mourn his loss. He was a native of Germany and came to this county eleven years ago and rented the Henry Forkenbrook farm four miles east of town where he resided at the time of his demise.
He was honest, upright, a good neighbor and citizen and his death will be deeply mourned by those who knew him best. The funeral was held from St. Mary's church Thursday morning at 10 o''clock, conducted by Rev. Father Brune. Interment in St. Mary's cemetery.

Mrs. Mary Schneider Buried at Alton
Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Schneider, aged 87, were held at Mankato, Minn., Saturday morning and interment was at St. Mary’s cemetery at Alton in the afternoon following brief rites at the church. She was the wife of Jacob Schneider, deceased. Both were pioneer residents of the Alton vicinity. She is survived by four sons—John, Primghar; Nic, Wilmont, Minn.; Pete, Adrian, Minn.; and Bart of Mankato, Minn.; also by 22 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Those present at the funeral from out-of-town were: John Schneider, Primghar; Mr. and Mrs. Nic Schneider and four children, Wilmont; Mr. and Mrs. Peter Schneider and five children, Adri-an; Mr. and Mrs. B. Schneider and three children of Mankato; Mr. and Mrs. Gaspar Becher and son, Wilmont; John Sundbeck, Mankato; John and Catherine Schneider, Fulda, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Al Schneider, Ashton; Mr. and Mrs. Tom Kool [or Kooi] and son of Orange City; Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Schneider, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Ahlers, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ahlers, John Schuver, Joe Schuver and children, Mrs. Tony Schuver and daughter, all of Granville.

From the Mankato (Minn.) Free Press, June 3, 1938:
Mrs. Mary Schneider of LeRay Is Called Mrs. Mary Schneider of Le Ray township died at the home of her son, Bart in that township last night. She was born in Germany in 1850.
The survivors are four sons: Bart of Le Ray, John of Pringhai[Primghar], Ia., Nick of Wilmont, J. Peter of Adrian, and 22 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
The funeral will be held from SS. Peter and Paul’s Catholic church at 7 a.m. Saturday and the remains will be taken overland to Alton, Ia. for burial.
