This story was taken from page 63 of the St. Joseph Catholic Church Book 1886-1986. It was transcribed by Sarah Theis for the Greater Sioux County Genealogical Society. Some research notes have been added.
Elizabeth Galles, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Pete Galles, was born in Granville on April 28, 1885. She married Herman Bennier of Carroll, Iowa, on November 27, 1905. He had a dance hall, later a bowling alley and gas station. They were the parents of Martha, Alphonse, Joe, Dorothy (Matt Holles) and Waldomer. Elizabeth was one of the church’s organists. She died on February 12, 1938.

He married Elizabeth Galles 27 November 1905 in Granville, IA.
Elizabeth Galles born 28 April 1885 in Granville, IA died 12 February 1938 in Granville, IA. Her parents were Peter Galles born 16 May 1849 in Dommeldange, Luxembourg and died 11 August 1930 in Granville, IA and Marie Peters born 10 August 1859 in Altrier, Luxembourg died 23 February 1911 in Granville, IA. Herman and Elizabeth were the parents of five children.
1. Joseph Michael Bennier born 22 May 1906 in Granville, IA died 26 April 1972 in Battle Creek, MI. He married Mary Louise Nolan on 27 October 1936 in Douglas, NE. Mary was born 24 July 1913 died 13 February 1967 in Santa Clara, CA. Mary was granted an uncontested divorce on 30 April 1945 in Calhoun MI. She remarried and had a child. Joseph remained in MI and never remarried, he is buried in Granville, IA.
2. Martha Bennier born 6 May 1907 in Granville, IA died 28 April 1990 in Springfield, MN. Martha married Patrick Mullen 18 February 1947 in Granville, IA. Patrick born 24 April 1904 in Hendricks County, Indiana died 23 May 1975 in Lebanon, Boone County, Indiana.
3. Alphonse Joseph Bennier born 11 October 1908 in Granville, IA died 20 March 1994 Palmyra, NE. Alphonse married Marcella Mathilda Schilmoeller 26 November 1929 in Granville, IA. Marcella born 25 August 1907 in Granville, IA died 25 March 1998 Palmyra, NE. Alphonse and Marcella had six sons and five daughters. 4. Dorothy Bennier born 7 July 1911 in Granville, IA died 11 February 2000 Springfield, MN. Dorothy married Mathew Albert Holles 24 May 1938 in Granville, IA. Mathew born 15 October 1908 in Baker, IA died 9 February 1965 in Springfield, MN. They had one son, David Holles.
5. Waldomer Anthony Bennier born 9 February, 1924 in Granville, IA died 11 November 2015 Prescott, AZ. Waldo married Shirley LaVon Harris 7 October 1944 in Fairfax, Virginia. Shirley born 1 September 1924 died 15 August 1968 in LA, CA. Waldo and Shirley had one son, Barry and one daughter, Barbara. After Shirley’s passing, Waldo married Frances Elizabeth Howard 28 June 1969 in LA, CA. Frances born 5 May 1918 in LA, CA died 5 November 2013 in Prescott, AZ. Waldo and Frances had two sons, Al of Placentia, CA and Michael of Oregon.

Herman Bennier
Burial services were, conducted at St, Joseph's cemetery at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday afternoon for the late Herman Bennier, a longtime Granville business man, who passed away at a Carroll nursing home Sunday.
Funeral services were held at St. Lawrence Catholic church in Carroll Tuesday morning with
Rev, Msgr, Karhoff officiating.

Rites Tuesday for Mrs. Bennier
Mrs. Herman C. Bennier of Granville passed on at the Sacred Heart hospital in Le Mars Saturday morning after a month’s illness. Her death at less than 54 years of age brought sorrow to her family and a host of friends. She has lived her entire life in Granville and vicinity, having been born of pioneer parents on April 23, 1885. Her maiden name was Miss Elizabeth Galles. She was married on Nov. 27th, 1905, to H. C. Bennier.
Surviving are her husband and five children: Joe of Granville, Alphonse of Rock Valley, Dorothy and Waldomer of Granville and Sister Jean Estelle of Sacred Heart hospital, Le Mars; and by on brother Mike Galles of Battle Creek, Mich.
Requiem high mass was read at St. Joseph’s Catholic church Tuesday morning by Rev. Gerlemann, assisted by Rev. Pick of Sutherland and Rev. Ahles of Marcus. Pall bearers were Joe Kokenge, Ed Luken, Vincent O’Connor, Geo. Broman, Joe Bachman, Phil Muehl. Many friends were present from Remsen, Marcus, Le Mars and neighboring towns and the many beautiful floral offerings bore testimony of the high regard in which Mrs. Bennier was held.Pictures of Herman Bennier and Elizabeth Galles were found on the family site on ancestry.com.
