DREADFUL ACCIDENT – TWO MEN KILLED
On last Friday week as Norman Morgan and Samuel Sturdevant, two farmers and old residents of the county, living near Princeton, were engaged in some depth in digging a well, it caved in, covering their feet and ankles but, from the nature of the quicksand rendering them wholly unable to extricate themselves. They shouted for help, and several persons came to their rescue, when a second caving buried them to the waist. Every effort possible was made to rescue them but before anything was effected a third caving buried them from sight. A Mr. Confara barely escaped with his life in effort to rescue the unfortunate men. Both men left families – their wives, we understand, being present at that time of the catastrophe. – Dav. Gazette
