The Clinton Age, Clinton, Iowa, February 9, 1877
Mr. J. M. Eldridge informs us that 31 years ago today, Feb. 6, the ice ran out of the river at this point; the weather was warm and spring like; the frost all out of the ground and the roads dry and dusty, on Feb. 12, 1846, the steamer Lynx left the wharf here for St. Louis; went down as far as Montrose and returned as the water was so low she could not get over the lower rapids. Mr. E. was on aboard this trip. – Dav. Dem.
