MISS GRACE SHELLENBERGER is librarian of the Davenport Public Library. She
became interested in library work in this state, and formerly was
children's librarian at Des Moines.

Miss Shellenberger was born at Bolivar, Polk County, Missouri, daughter of
Henry and Adeline (Demaree) Shellenberger. She attended public schools at
Bolivar, and finished her literary education in the Humboldt College at
Humboldt, Iowa. While teaching at Humboldt she was appointed local
librarian, and it was this work that gave her a permanent interest in library
science as a profession. When she left there she entered the Library Training
School at the Carnegie Library in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and after
completing her training returned to Iowa and for six years was librarian of the
children's department in the Des Moines Public Library. For two years
following that she was librarian for the board of control of state institutions.

Miss Shellenberger has a special assignment of war work during the World
war, having charge of the library at Fort Des Moines. After the close of
the war she had charge for a year of the public library at Kewanee, Illinois,
and then accepted the position of librarian in the Davenport Public
Library in 1920. She is a member of the Iowa and the American Library
Associations. During 1927, while abroad, she attended the meeting of the British
Library Association. Miss Shellenberger is a member of the P. E. O., the
Tuesday Club, Davenport Woman's Club and Clionian Club. She is a member of the
Congregational Church.
