Jerry Wilson White Killed on May 11th on Okinawa IslandOn May 22, Mrs. Dan White received a message from the government saying that her son Jerry had been killed on Okinawa on May 11th. On May 17th she received a letter from her son. It had been written on May 7th and was the first word she had had from him since February. Previous to that time he had written regularly so it is presumed that he waws kept unusually busy for a couple of months prior to death.
Jerry Wilson White, son of Mrs. Dan White was born near Nemaha, February 10,1926. He grew to young manhood here and graduated from Nemaha Public Schools in 1944. He was active in basketball and baseball.
He enlisted in the service about the middle of July 1944 and took his boot training at Paris Island, S.C. After his six weeks of training he was home for ten days then returned to camp. He went to Jeune, N.C. then to Camp Pendelton in CA. He wrote his mother regularly.
Mrs. White has another son in the service. Mr. White passed away on Easter Sunday of last year. Four brothers and three sisters are left to mourn. A host of friends extend sympathy to this family in their loss.
