Obituary - George T. Smith

George T. Smith, son of Charles M. and Elizabeth Smith, was born in Logan county, Illinois, May 14, 1858 and passed away December 29, 1933, at his home in Kellerton, after a long illness, at the age of 75 years, seven months and 15 days. He was united in marriage to Miss Laura B. Brinning August 26, 1873, in Lincoln, Illinois, coming the same year to Iowa, where they have since resided.

To this union four children were born, Jessie, Rolland, Forrest and Harold. Harold died May 2, 1927.

Mr. Smith's health began to fail eight years ago. After undergoing a surgical operation in the Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, he was partially restored, but four years ago he became ill again and grew steadily worse to the end. He received treatment for a time in the hospital in Iowa City, but nothing could stop the ravages of disease that had fastened upon him. His greatest desire during the past year was to live to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary. This desire was realized on the 26th day of last August, when more than a hundred of the relatives and friends gathered at their home and helped them observe the day.

Brother Smith was converted in early life and united with the Methodist Episcopal Church and had remained a loyal member to the last. He was not only a member of the church, but was interested in its welfare, frequently inquiring how the church work was going during the months he was unable to attend services. He was a good neighbor, always ready to help in time of need.

Besides his widow he leaves to mourn his sons, Rolland of Padroni, Colo., Forest of Kellerton; one daughter, Mrs. Jessie Worthie, of Padroni, Colo.; two brothers, Lewis of Bethany, Mo., and Grant of Urich, Mo.; two half brothers, one aunt and one uncle and ten grandchildren.

Funeral services were held in the Methodist Church Sunday at 1:30 and the remains laid to rest in the Maple Row Cemetery
