Charles J. ANDERSON Quietly
Passes into the Next
World.A man hath gone to rest! The pale reaper visited the home of Charles J. ANDERSON two miles east, and three quarters of a mile north of town, and while the multitude of happy people were eating their Thanksgiving dinner, our neighbor passed as peacefully away as the infant going to sleep. And thus, at the ripe old age of 85 years, 1 month, and 1 day, he gave up the ghost after a well spent life in an earnest endeavor to live according to the laws of his Creator, and to bless and uplift his fellow man.
He was born in Folkenburg, Sweden, October 29, 1825; he was of a religious turn of mind, and left the creed and worship of the State church May 10, 1856, uniting with the Later Day Saint church as presented to him by the Utah elders.
Then in January of that year, he was united in marriage to Miss Anna SWENSON. To this union was born one daughter, and five sons. Hulda died May 13, 1886, and Joseph died March 18, 1901. Otto is somewhere in Texas, while John, Hiram, and Levi are living in the vicinity of the old homestead, they and their families being in attendance at the obsequies.
In 1860 Mr. Anderson and his young bride left his native land, and immigrated to Utah, The Elders of the Reorganized Later Day Saints came preaching in the locality of his mountain home, and pointed out the errors of the Utah mormonism, and he accepted the gospel as it was established in 1830. He was baptized in Molad City, Idaho, May 12, 1863, and in 1874 removed to the place of his death, which occurred November 30, 1911. The funeral services were held in his late residence on the following Saturday. Elder Robert M. ELVIN preached the sermon from first Corinthians, 15:22. The body was taken overland to Lamoni, and deposited in Rose Hill Cemetery, the aged wife, and three sons being present at the interment.
