Mrs. Amanda C. JOHNSON was born July 22, 1842, in Morgan county, Ill., and died at her home in Kellerton, Iowa, July 25, 1900. At the early age of 14 she gave her heart and life to the Master, identified herself with the Cumberland Presbyterian Church and twenty-seven years ago she united with the M.E. church, who which she remained loyal until the end came. When 16 years old she moved to Van Buren county.
The record of her life is a glorious one. Her mother died when Amanda was yet young, and she being the oldest the heaviest care fell upon her.
She was "a mother" to the younger members of the family. She was a kind neighbor, a faithful wife, a good mother, a beloved sister, and a consistent Christian, loyal to her God and church. Her place is vacant and she is missed in the home, church and neighborhood. And well may we say "A mother in Israel is gone."
On December 23, 1861 she was united in marriage to J. M. McGUIRE. In 1869 they moved to Ringgold county, Iowa, where she lived until her death. In her death the entire community sustains a loss we shall not soon forget.
Three sisters and one brother survive her. Three sons, Willis A., Charles N., Frank E., of Kellerton, and one daughter, Clara D., of Martinsville, Mo., and her now sorrowing husband are the deepest bereaved.
In this sad hour the family has the deep sympathy of the entire community. While we may sympathize and weep with them, there is only one who can comfort, for He says: "As one whom his mother comforteth, so will I comfort you."
The funeral was conducted from the M.E. Church, Friday at 10:30 a.m. by Rev. C. Knoll, assisted by Rev. W. F. MARK. The remains were laid to rest in the Kellerton [Maple Row] Cemetery.
