Frank MCGUIRE Attempts To Murder His Wife and Ends His Own Life With Revolver - Jealousy Supposed Cause.
After an unsuccessful attempt on the life of his wife, Frank MCGUIRE shot and killed himself at his home at Kellerton, Wednesday at 2:45 p.m. He used a revolver, the ball entering the lower part of the woman's neck squarely in front and lodging probably against the shoulder blade. She will recover. MCGUIRE shot himself twice, the balls taking effect in the stomach and in the heart. He died instantly.
Mr. and Mrs. MCGUIRE had had trouble, and parted about ten days before the tragedy. The presence in their home of a young man, Floyd FOWLER, aged nineteen, a relative of Mrs. MCGUIRE, of St. Joseph, is said to have given rise to the disagreement and separation. The Twice-A-Week News says, "While Mrs. MCGUIRE is not accused of any immoral conduct, she is a vivacious company-loving woman, and may have been gratified at her husband's exhibition of jealousy." Young FOWLER had gone home, and MCGUIRE had repeatedly attempted to bring about a reconciliation. At the time of the shooting Mrs. MCGUIRE had gone to the home to do up some work, and to secure her belongings, prior to going to Mt. Ayr to work at the Van Winkle hotel. MCGUIRE is supposed to have shot her in the heat of passion.
Frank MCGUIRE was the son of J. M. MCGUIRE, and a brother of Willis and Charles MCGUIRE. He was about thirty-two years of age. Mrs. MCGUIRE is a daughter of C. C. PRALL of Riley township, Ringgold county. They had been married about ten years and had one little girl eight years old.
An inquest was held Wednesday evening. A. H. TEALE, George W. BLAIR and Lewis SCHILLER acted as jurors. The verdict was that deceased "came to his own death by a gunshot wound, the shot being fired by himself." MCGUIRE's funeral was from the M.E. church at Kellerton, Friday morning at ten.
