Marion A. Jones, 82, of Grinnell, died on Tuesday, November 22, 2011, at her home.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, November 26, 2011, at the United Church of Christ-Congregational in Grinnell. Interment will be at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell.
Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell beginning 12 noon on Friday and the family will be present at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday.
Memorials may be directed to Grinnell Regional Medical Center, Monmouth College or to the Grinnell Area Arts Council.
Marion was born on July 18, 1929, in Oak Park, Illinois to Merrill and Gertrude Friend Austin. She attended public schools in Oak Park and graduated from Wayland Academy in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin. She received a BA degree in theater and music from Monmouth College in Monmouth, Illinois.
On August 12, 1950, she was married to F. Addison Jones in Chicago. The couple lived in Ottumwa and moved to Grinnell in 1954. The family owns and operates the Grinnell State Bank and she served on the bank's board of directors. She was a mother of three sons and enjoyed participating in their activities.
Marion was a member of the United Church of Christ-Congregational in Grinnell, the Priscilla Club, PEO and was active in various bridge clubs. She had served on the Board of Director's of Grinnell Regional Medical Center and served two terms as President. She was also very active with the hospital auxiliary and volunteering time in the hospital gift shop and the auxiliary membership drives. She was actively involved in the Grinnell Community Theater as an actress and director.
Survivors include her husband, F. Addison Jones of Grinnell; three sons, Stephen F. Jones, David A. (Lori Tucker) Jones and F. Austin (Kim) Jones, all of Grinnell; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and one cousin, Bob Friend of Aurora, Colorado.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her step father, Harlan Thompson.
