According to the Pottawattamie County, Iowa marriage record, Samuel's parents were John and Eliza (Morgan) Woodward and Magnolia's parents were Jesse and Nancy (Downey) Luman.

They are enumerated in the 1870 and 1880 censuses in Champaign County, Illinois and by 1885 are in Fort Calhoun, Nebraska.
On August 31, 1895 in Council Bluffs, Pottawattamie County, Iowa, Jesse Luman married Phoebe J. Bickford.

Magnolia Woodward died on March 31, 1926. Her obituary:
Mrs. Magnolia Woodward, aged 50 years, died at 12:30 o'clock Wednesday morning as the result of injuries received in an automobile accident last July. She is survived by her husband, Samuel Woodward; two sons Everett and Oscar Woodward of this city, and three daughters, Mrs. V. A. Crosswhite, Mrs. Hazel Inman, and Miss Helen Woodward, all of this city. Mrs. Woodward was a member of Security Benefit association, True Council No. 305. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the family home. Rev. C. E. Ryder of the Church of the Nazarene and Mr. Sorenson of Hope mission in charge. Burial will be in Walnut Hill cemetery.

Funeral services for Mrs. Magnolia Woodward were held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the residence at 830 Avenue E, with Rev. C. E. Ryder of the Nazarene church and Rev. J. S. Sorenson of Hope Mission presiding. Pallbearers were Thomas Sorenson, Mr. Osborn, Ole Sields, Paul Radliff, Ralph Johnston, Clarence Osborn. Music was furnished by Viva Booton, Ardith Radliff, and Mrs. Fay Sorenson. The flower-bearers were Mesdames Marguerite Robbins, Bessie Rose, Ettie Sprinkle, May Palmer, Emley Levi, and Miss Lillian McGill. Burial was made in Walnut Hill cemetery.
Samuel Woodward died on November 11, 1953.

Samuel Albert Woodward, 78, 2745 Sixth Ave., died Wednesday in a local hospital following a three week illness. He is the father-in-law of Willis Shrader, superintendent of the city parking meter department. Woodward was a lifelong resident of Council Bluffs. He was employed by a local transfer company at the time of his death. He was a member of the Moose Lodge. Survivors are: son, Everett of Compton, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. Willis Shrader of Council Bluffs, and Mrs. Esther Crosswhite of Long Beach, Calif.; and seven grandchildren. The body is at the Woodring Funeral Home.

They were married on April 5, 1857 in Bedfordshire, England. Eliza Morgan is enumerated in 1851 in Northill, Bedfordshire, England with her parents William and Betsey Morgan. John Woodward is enumerated in 1851 with his parents Samuel and Sarah Woodward also in Northill. In the 1861 and 1871 censuses, John Woodward and Eliza Morgan Woodward are in Northill. In 1881, Eliza Woodward is a widow.
John Woodward was born 11 September 1831 in Upper Caldecote, Bedfordshire and died 7 August 1874. Eliza Morgan Woodward was born ca 1832-1834 and was still living in 1881 in Northill. Samuel had at least three siblings: Mary Ann Woodward, born ca. 1863, George born ca 1865 and Emma born ca. 1870.
