Therese Schoeneman, nee Freitag, born at Darmstadt, Province Sachsen Gotha, Germany, May 18, 1836, was united in marriage to William D. Schoeneman on the 3rd day of April 1859 and on the 17th day of April 1859 they left their old country home and on May 30th landed in America and located on a farm near Dodgeville, Wisconsin. In the year 1874 they moved on a farm near Walnut, Iowa and there resided until the death of her husband on Jan 12, 1897. Soon after his decease, she moved to Sheldon, Iowa, at which place she lived until her demise, the 20th day of March 1910, at the age of 73 years, 10 months and 2 days. Deceased was the mother of nine children, all of whom survive her. They being Otto of Sheldon, Iowa; Robert of Long Beach, Cal.; Frank B. and J. H. Charles of Hawarden, Iowa; David A. and Alvin C. of Sioux Falls, S. D.; Mrs. H. H. C. Baumann of Milwaukee, Wis.; Mrs. A. F. Steffen and Mrs. E. H. Reimann of Hull, Iowa. Funeral services were held at the Congregational Church at Sheldon, Iowa at 3 p.m., Tuesday, March 22nd, the remains were taken to Walnut, Iowa for interment in the family lot at Walnut Cemetery, March 23, 1910. Deceased was confirmed in the Lutheran Church in Germany at the age of fourteen, was a member of the Lutheran Church and united with the Presbyterian Church at Walnut, Iowa in the year 1890, and when she became a resident at Sheldon, Iowa she united with the Congregational Church – a member at time of death.
