Cathryn Ann Esse
June 23, 1940 - December 25, 2024Cathryn Ann Esse, born to Donald and Ruth Cackler on June 23, 1940, in Des Moines, Iowa, passed away peacefully on December 25, 2024, in Waukee, Iowa.
A lifelong learner and dedicated educator, Cathryn graduated from Des Moines Lincoln High School before earning a Specialist degree from Drake University. She devoted her career to shaping young minds as a teacher with Des Moines Public Schools, teaching third grade at Samuelson Elementary and fifth grade at Woodlawn Elementary. Her commitment to education extended beyond the classroom as a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, an organization for women educators.
Cathryn's life was enriched by her love of music and the arts. She found joy in singing, playing the piano, and appreciating music of all kinds. An avid reader and enthusiastic traveler, she embraced the beauty of learning and exploration throughout her life.
Cathryn was blessed with a loving family. She shared two daughters with her first husband, Tony Bos. Later in life, she married Loren Esse. Cathryn is survived by her daughters Brenda (Daryl) Six of Frankfort, Kentucky, and Beth (Brad) Hodges of Oskaloosa, Iowa; seven grandchildren: Brandon Six, Andrew Six, Maddison Robinson, Anna Walker, Sarah Kasworm, Emilia Hodges, and Phillip Hodges; and eight great-grandchildren: Nick, Ben, Adaline, Desmond, Emma, Evan, Everett, and Jae. She is also survived by her brother Doug (Robin) Cackler, her sister Claudia Cackler, and her husband Loren Esse.
