Richard Petersen, 84, passed away Tuesday, October 4, 2011, from complications of a stroke, at Hospice Kavanagh House in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, October 8, at Iles Funeral Homes-Westover Chapel, with burial to follow at Glendale Cemetery.
Richard was born in Exira, Iowa, moved to Des Moines to attend AIB and was drafted into the US Army during WWII. Following his service he returned to Des Moines to complete his degree. He worked for 36 years at Economy Forms Corporation until his retirement in 1987. Richard was secretary/treasurer for Economy Forms Corporation and served on the Board of Directors for Wilian Holding Company and Transform LTD. Richard was an avid walker and enjoyed traveling worldwide and wintering in Florida. He was a member of the American-Scandinavian Foundation.
Richard is survived by his wife of 34 years, Janis, his children, Linda (Charlie) Griffin of Hesperie, CA, Randy (Ann) Petersen of Ankeny, Steve Petersen of Las Vegas, Shirley (Paul Buck) Petersen of San Diego, CA and Timothy (Mona) Petersen of Alpine, CA; his stepsons, Mike (Annette) Glaza of West Des Moines and David (Carol) Glaza of Des Moines; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; his brother, Ron (Isabelle) Petersen of Exira, IA and five nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Georgene.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, at Westover Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Stroke Association, the American Heart Association or the charity of the donor's choice.
