Tillene J. "Tillie" McGrean, 90, passed away on October 13, 2011 at her residence in Pleasant Hill. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at Iles Funeral Homes - Grandview Park Chapel. Burial will be at Glendale Cemetery. Her family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m., Monday at the funeral home.
Tillie was born in Dumont, Iowa and graduated from Dumont High School in 1940. She moved to Des Moines in 1941 and attended night school for a short time. In 1946 she was united in marriage to Paul "Sam" McGrean in Des Moines, where she lived most of her life.
Tillie retired from Norwest Financial in December 1983. Then in 1991, she started working at the Iowa State Fair at the family center in the Food Department. She continued to work there for ten years, until her health came to a point where she needed to stay home, which she did. Tillie loved to play cards with her friends and family.
Tillie is survived by her son, Jim (Donna) McGrean; two daughters, Sue Bissell and Becky (Harley "Joby") Kimmel; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Kathryn Richards and Jeannette Hayner; numerous nieces and nephews other family and friends and her beloved dog, Gigi. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hans and Hilda Folkerds; her husband, Sam; three brothers, John, LaVern and Claus and a sister, Etta.
