I. F. Fisher Crosses The Bar
I. F. Fisher, a long-time resident of Des Moines township, passed away Sunday night, Oct. 13, 1935. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon from the Rolfe Methodist church at 2:30, with Rev. J. P. Lester of Fonda officiating, assisted by Rev. C. L. Tompkins.
Isaiah Franklin Fisher, was born at Greencastle, Jasper county, Iowa, Sept. 30, 1859, and passed away Oct. 14, 1935, at the age of 76 years and 14 days. He was the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Adam Fisher. When a young man he helped to build the Northern Pacific Railway to the west coast. From the wages he received for his work he sent a portion each month home to his father. With the money thus saved, he came to Pocahontas county in 1886 and purchased a farm northeast of Rolfe. Here he built a home and lived by himself until Mar. 25, 1888, when he married Elizabeth Richey at Colfax, Iowa. Three children came to brighten the home: Milton R., now of Estherville, Karl, who died while young, and William R. of Rolfe. There are four grandchildren: Edris Leaper of Estherville, Shirley, Bruce and Barbara Ann Fisher of Rolfe; and one great-granddaughter, Winnagean Leaper, of Estherville.
While Lucille George was still a very young child, Mr. and Mrs. Fisher took her into their home and cared for her as one of their own until her marriage to Jas. Truelsen. She and her husband and children, Kenneth, Nels, Robert, Ella Beth, David, Lois and Joyce, are left to mourn the passing of one who was to them a true father and grandfather.
Mr. Fisher was a very industrious. Altho frugal he was very liberal with his family. He was a staunch friend. He did many kind and charitable acts of which the world was unaware. He never sought public office, but was always a willing worker in the interest of community good. He liked to visit and enjoyed having company in the home, where he was a royal host. A few years ago he retired from active farm work, but continued to live on the homestead, contented to occupy himself with the many lighter tasks about the place.
After the death of his wife a year ago his health failed rapidly. However, he was able to be up and about and to attend to business matters until a few weeks ago. These last few weeks he had been confined to his bed much of the time. He was a true friend, a good neighbor and a model citizen. All these with the family will truly mourn his passing to the Great Beyond.
Long-time friends and neighbors acted as casket bearers: Hans Miller, O. G. Ryen, Niels Nielsen, George D. Struthers, Leslie Struthers and J. D. Howe. Interment was in Clinton-Garfield Cemetery.
Mrs. J. C. Andres of Truesdale was an out of town friend attending the funeral.
