PASSED AWAY NOVEMBER 16Funeral services were held Thursday morning, November 19, as Sacred Heart church here for Thomas Harrold, 85, county resident for almost his entire lifetime. Mr. Harrold died at 10:30 p.m. Monday, November 16, in Mercy hospital, Fort Dodge, where he had been a patient for about a month. He had been in ill health for the past 10 years.
Rev. H. B. Karhoff, pastor, was celebrant of the requiem Mass. Burial was in Calvary cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were R. L. Hudson, Ted Neu, George Erie, Mike Naughton, P. J. Harrold and Francis Ryan. The Rudolph & Mc-Intire Funeral Home had charge of the arrangements.
A son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Harrold, he was born in February, 1868, in Boone county. When a small infant, the family moved to Pocahontas county and homesteaded in Lincoln township, being the first family in the township. He attended rural schools and after the death of his father in 1884, operated the farm until moving into Pocahontas and he operated a dray line hauling merchandise from neighboring towns. After the railroad was put through town, he did road work for many years.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Mary Murphy, who lived with him. His mother died in 1915 and a brother, James, died in 1927. Mr. Harrold was unmarried.
