Herman C. Koch

Herman C. Koch, 91, Akron, died Monday (Dec. 14, 1981) in the Akron nursing home after a long illness.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 17 in the Plymouth Presbyterian church, rural Akron. The Rev. James Ranson will officiate. Organist will be Shirley Timmons, and Marilyn Taylor, soloist, singing “My God and I” and “How Great Thou Art”. Burial will be in the Riverside cemetery under direction of the Schroeder funeral home. A prayer service was held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home followed by a Masonic service conducted by Freedom Lodge 434.

Pallbearers were Donald R. Koch, Richard Wales, David Koch, Robert Koch, Dennis Koch, Douglas Koch, Richard Koch, and Kurt Appley.

Mr. Koch was born Nov. 18, 1890, at Akron. He graduated from Iowa State college with a degree in vocational agriculture. He served in the U. S. army during World War I. He married Neva Elsie Williams July 21, 1918, at Akron. They farmed all their married life in the Akron area retiring to Akron in 1957. Mrs. Koch died Feb. 20, 1969. Mr. Koch was a 50-year member of Masonic Freedom Lodge 434 of Akron, Order of Eastern Star of Akron. Scottish Rite Bodies, Sioux City consistory and was a 32nd degree Mason.

Survivors include one son, Donald of Akron; one daughter, Mrs. Ruth Wales of Akron; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one step-brother, Fred of Phoenix, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, two infant daughters, five brothers, one step-brother and one step-sister.
