RALPH C. BERNER FAMILY

Christian E. Berner of Merrill, Iowa, and Catherine B. Hoffman of Florence, Illinois, were united in marriage on March 12, 1889. To this marriage four children were born: Dudelphia F. Berner was born June 28, 1890; Lavon Ruth Berner was born November 11, 1892; Haliver Earl Berner was born December 6, 1894; and Ralph Christian Berner was born May 3, 1897.

Dudelphia F. Berner and Ruben Knapp were married June 1908, and no children were born to this union.

Lavon Ruth Berner passed away on November 30, 1894.

Haliver Earl Berner was married to Josephine Berry of Council Bluffs, Iowa, on November 1930. To this union four boys were born: Charles, a dentist in Omaha; William, a lawyer in Pennsylvania; Robert, a teacher and student at Bowling Green University, Ohio; and Dennis at home.

Ralph Christian Berner and Ruby V. Rollins, of LeMars, Iowa, were married on January 2, 1921. Two sons were born to Ralph and Ruby: Darrell Ralph, of Puyallup, Washington, and Herschel Arlo, of Merrill, Iowa. Darrell married Colene Tevis November 16, 1948. They had three babies which died at birth. Herschel married Lois Schneider of Akron, Iowa, and they are the parents of one son, Terry, who attended college at Brookings, South Dakota and Cindy, their daughter, who attended LeMars Community High School.

Ralph started farming the home place at the age of 12 and continued to farm until his retirement in 1951. Herschel started farming at the home place after his father’s retirement. Ralph developed a serious illness and passed away December 4, 1970.
