Jennie and Edward Carpenter, who operated a jewelry store in Ireton became the parents of a daughter, Edna, Oct. 10, 1890. Edna completed elementary and high school at Ireton and graduated from Drake University at Des Moines with a degree in dramatics.
For a number of years, she lived with an aunt at Newton and taught fourth grade. During the summers, she had some very interesting experiences traveling throughout the county doing dramatic parts in Chautauqua shows. The younger members of her family were thrilled to see the clothes she wore and hear of the places she had been.
Edna married Henry Braband in 1920. They lived on a farm near LeMars. Three daughters wee born to them. They include Marian Messelhiser, LeMars; Marjorie Hill, Fort Dodge; and Joann Lamp, Bradshaw, Nebraska. After Mr. Braband’s death in 1957, Edna lived with her daughter and family, the Al Messelhisers. Part of the time was spent at Round Lake, Minn., and in recent years their home has been in LeMars.
Mrs. Braband has resided at the Good Samaritan Center the last five years. She has eleven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Edna attended the Church of the Nazarene.
Her sister, Dorothy Langley, Kingsley, was her guest at the part. Mrs. Messelhiser stopped by that day and also on her 84th birthday. Mrs. Hill was a weekend visitor.
