John (Jack) Truesdell Family

Oliver John Truesdell was born on March 6, 1848, in Ontario, Canada and died on October 29, 1925 at Graettinger, Iowa. In 1867 he came to the United States and worked on the Union Pacific Railroad which was being built at that time. He was present when the Golden Spike was driven. He later came to Nevada, Iowa where he met and married Eliza Candace Jenkins, who was born in July of 1855 and died in 1941 at Graettinger.
In the late 1880s, they immigrated to Palo Alto and lived on a farm south of Graettinger until they moved to Morris, Minnesota fora few years, returning to the Graettinger area where they remained the rest of their married life.
There were four children born to this union.
George was born in 1875 and died on December 2, 1957 at Phoenix, Arizona. He married Anna O'Connor and they farmed southwest of Wallingford for many years.
They had no children.
William Thomas was born on January 21, 1877, at Nevada, Iowa and died on March 6, 1946, at Estherville, Iowa. He married Myrtle Stamp (born April 15, 1883 at Strawberry Point, Iowa and died on August 21, 1972 at Estherville). There were four children born to this union. Owen Kenneth (born December 14, 1905 at Graettinger and died September 24, 1952 at Staples, Minnesota). He married Bertha DeGeest and lived in northern Minnesota most of their married life. Mildred Candace (born August 13, 1907 and died May 11, 1931, at the birth of twin girls). She married Edward Edward Maloney and lived in Escanaba, Michigan. The twins, Nancy and Patricia, live at Davenport, Iowa. Oliver Altoft (born November 4, 1911 and died October 17, 1972) married Florence Wempe and farmed in the
Sherburn, Minnesota area for many years. Maxine Mary (born March 20, 1918) married Isidore Neppl in 1939 and farmed north of Estherville before retiring in 1979 and moved to Estherville. There were two children in this family. On August 6, 1985, Maxine married Gene Leonard and they now reside in Estherville.Adda, born in 1881 and died in 1911, married Law Alcorn and lived in Graettinger. They had one son, Claude, but this whole family died within a short period of time (1911-1915).
Ida Mae was postmistress at Ringsted for several years where she met Chester Wright and later they were maried. They made their home in Beresford, South Dakota. They had no children. Chester had two daughters, Ida was born on June 22, 1884 and died September 12, 1947.
