Death of Mrs. I. Sanborn
After an illness of a couple of months Mrs. Sanborn, wife of I. Sanborn of this city, died at her home, 100 West Reed St., last Wednesday afternoon. The news of her death came as a shock to her many friends of this city, for it was only a short time before her death that the true seriousness of her condition was realized. Mrs. Sanborn will be greatly missed in Red Oak, especially by all connected with the Village Improvement club of which organization she was president and a chief worker. She was instrumental in starting the public library project and it was owing to her illness that work in this direction was suspended. She was also a prominent worker in the Monday club, and a regular attendant at the Congregational church, though during most of her life since early girlhood she was an active member of the Presbyterian denomination.
Mrs. Sanborn whose maiden name was Matilda L. Watt, was born in Latrobe, Pa., September 21, 1853. She was married to Mr. Sanborn at Pittsburg, Pa., August 3, 1875. Mr Sanborn then lived in Richmond, Va., and it was there that the young couple began housekeeping. After the lapse of five years Mr. Sanborn and wife moved to Atchison, Kansas, where they lived two years, and then moved to Tarkio, Mo., and in the year 1883 to Red Oak, Iowa. One child was born to them, Miss Martha, who with her father is left to mourn her loss. Mrs. Sanborn has one brother and three sisters living. The brother is Thomas E. Watt, general passenger agent of the Pennsylvania Central railroad, living at Pittsburg, Pa. Two sisters live in Pittsburg and one in Cincinnati, Ohio. Mrs. Sanborn's funeral will be held from the home at 2:30 this afternoon.
