FAMILY GONE
~
M’COWN FINDS IT IMPOSSIBLE
TO CARE FOR CHILDREN AND
SO GIVES THEM UP
~
P. H. McCown, whose wife became insane and was sent to the Clarinda hospital May 9 for treatment, was compelled yesterday to give up his three children, Hazel, Marie, Opal, Mildred and Gertrude, ages 7, 5 and 8 years, respectively to the Iowa Children’s Home Society of Des Moines, who will find homes for them. McCown who is a colored man and a porter on a railway, took his children from the Crèche, where they were placed immediately after his wife’s trouble, and took them home. He provided an attendant for them for a time, but found it was not possible to do so any longer and gave up the children in consequence.
