Funeral services for Mrs. Esther Fransen were held from the American Lutheran Church in Melvin on Thursday, May 2, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. G.R. Woodrich, officiating. A quartet composed of Mrs. Kenneth Graves, Marilyn Knock, Tom Timmons and Ronald Schultz sang "Nearer My God To Thee" and "Rock of Ages" accompanied by Rodney Brandt at the organ.
Mrs. Esther Lucille Fransen, daughter of Henry and Dora (Schaffer) Fink was born at Hartley July 29, 1900. Her childhood was spent on the farm of her parents near Melvin. She was brought to the Lord in infancy in the sacrament of holy baptism at the age of 13 years. She made her confirmation vows in the Lutheran faith. On Feb. 22, 1924, she was united in marriage to Garret Fransen. The couple farmed for a number of years in the Melvin community and for a number of years they lived in Sibley where Mr. Fransen was employed by a transit company. The last twelve years they have made their home in the town of Melvin.
She passed away at the Anchorage Nursing Home at Sheldon on Monday, April 29 at the age of 62. She is preceded in death by her parents and a sister who passed away in infancy.
Surviving are her husband, Garret Fransen, 3 sisters, Mrs. Blanche Lyman of Melvin; Mrs. Leon Guertin of Sibley and Mrs. Floyd Heiller of Ocheyedan; 3 brothers, Forrest of Sibley, Floyd of Orangevale, Calif., Victor of Melvin. Also a number of nieces and nephews and friends.
Pallbearers were Vernon Brunk, George Brunk, Clarence Schaffer, Clarence Sorensen, Alfred Graves and Arthur Graves. Burial was in Baker Township Cemetery at Melvin. Funeral arrangements were by Walton Funeral Home of Sibley.
