Funeral services for Bert P. Graves were held May 25 at Walton Funeral Home. Rev. James Boogerd officiated. Burial was in Holman Township Cemetery with Walton Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Bert P. Graves was born September 20, 1896 in Ashton to Peter P. and Catherine (Wessels) Graves. He moved to Sibley when he was one year old.
He was married to Effie Post on July 2, 1924 in Sibley. They lived several places when he was employed by the Rock Island Railroad. In 1945 they moved back to Sibley, and he retired in 1961. In 1983 the couple moved to Spirit Lake. He served as a bugler in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Trinity Reformed Church in Sibley where he was a deacon, lifetime member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance Way Employees Union and the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife Effie of Spirit Lake; two sons, Ken of Independence, Mo. and Robert of Spirit Lake; five grandchildren, one brother Clyde of Oakland, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Don, three brothers; Wessel, Harold and Clarence.
