Funeral services for John Buchholz were held from the Melvin Lutheran church Saturday afternoon with the Rev. G. Goeken in charge. Mr. Buchholz passed away at Iowa City at 11 o'clock Tuesday evening, April 25. He was 54 years old.
John Buchholz was born October 21, 1884, at Sibley, Illinois. At the age of six months he came with his parents to Melvin, Iowa. Thus his whole life was spent in the Melvin vicinity. February 17, 1909, he was married to Amanda Mielke. To this union six children were born, two of who preceded their father in death. Elmer died in infancy and Elsie at the age of a year and a half.
Mr. Buchholz spent most of his life as a farmer, though for some time he lived at Melvin. For some time he was troubled with ulcers of the stomach, which later turned into cancer, causing his death. Mr. Buchholz was seriously ill for two years.
He is survived by his wife and four children: Mrs. John Harms, Esther, Marvin and Alvin; five brothers, William of Spirit Lake, Albert, Frank, Louis and Fred of Melvin. His sister, Mrs. George Jacobs, preceded him in death in February 1938, his mother in 1933 and his father in 1918.
Mr. Buchholz was brought up in the Lutheran faith. He was baptized in Illinois and later confirmed at May City. He was a member of the Melvin Lutheran church.
