Elihu Daggett was born in the state of Ohio on the 15th day of May, 1810. He was left without a father at the age of 7 years, and had to shift for himself. He went to Massachusetts, thence to York state where he worked for a number of years on a canal from Erie to Buffalo. He moved then to Michigan where he was married to Miss Sarah A. Curtis, of Reading in February, 1844. Nine children were born to them, eight sons and one daughter, four sons living. In the fifties they moved to Crawford Co., Wis., where they lived on the beautiful farm until the spring of 1872, they sold out and moved to Osceola county, Iowa, where Mr. Daggett and his son William each took up a homestead in Goewey township, Osceola county, and where he resided until his death.

Mr. Daggett and his wife joined the Baptist church in Wisconsin and later Mr. D joined the First Day Advents. He was a firm believer in the second coming of Christ. He was a very hard working man in his younger days, but as time wore on he seemed to fail under the weight of old age, worn out bodily until death relieved him of his sufferings. During his last sickness he gradually grew weaker until Monday morning about 8 o'clock, Jan 9th he talked with his son's wife a few moments and said "It looks comfortable," then passed into the great beyond at 8:30. He was 85 years, 7 months and 27 days old.

His wife died on Oct. 13, 1902. He leaves of his family four sons all of this county, and a host of friends to mourn his death. He has a niece in McGregor, Iowa, also one in Milwaukee. Two half brothers in Buffalo, one having been the principal of the largest grammar school in the city.
