Many people in Hartley were shocked and saddened by the news of the sudden death of Mrs. Ernest Hansen at her home 8 miles northwest of Hartley in the early morning of Tuesday, February 10, 1920.
For years Mrs. Hansen was in frail health but was always able to keep up her home cares. Late on Friday last she was taken sick the immediate cause of her death, heart failure.
Augusta Jurgensen was born Sept. 28th, 1880 in Clinton, Iowa. She came with the family to O'Brien Co.
In 1896, on Feb. 1st, 1905 she was married to Ernest Hansen. The home has been made in this community.
Mrs. Hansen was the mother of three children, LuVerna age 11 years, Ingwer 7 years and Kermit 10 months . These with her husband are in deep grief at her going. She is mourned for by her mother and father Mr. and Mrs. R. Olsen and by her brother John Jurgensen and four sisters, Mrs. Henry Zaiser, Mrs. Martin Geiser, Miss Minnie Jurgensen and Miss Elsie Olsen all of Hartley and Mrs. Frank D. Naive who lives in South Dakota and other relatives and a large circle of friends.
The deceased was baptized in infancy and when about 14 years of age was confirmed in the Christian faith and united with the Lutheran church holding steadfast to her vows and dying in the faith.
Funeral services were conducted on Thursday afternoon February, 12 by Rev. T.S. Bassett at the home and also at the chapel.
Interment was made in the Hartley cemetery.
