Dennis (Denny) Appeldorn, age 74, passed away Tuesday, September 14, 2021, with his wife by his side at Mercy One Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. A Memorial Military Service will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 21, 2021, at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel, Iowa for immediate family. Denny was born on November 14, 1946 to Delbert and Marcella Appeldorn. He graduated from Paullina High School in 1966 and attended Northwest Iowa Community College at Sheldon, Iowa for Autobody Repair.

Denny was united in marriage to Sandy (Hoppe) Appeldorn on January 10, 1970. They were blessed with 51 years of marriage, three children, and five grandchildren, Akasia, Taylen, Tenea, Lydia and Leela. Denny farmed for several years, and was employed at Farmer’s Coop Elevator in Paullina, IA, Sylecraft Furniture in Milford, IA, and John Deere of Ankeny, Iowa until his retirement in 2012.

Denny enjoyed making treasured keepsakes made from barn wood from Sandy’s home farm, golfing, attending the grandkid’s school and college events and shuffle boarding in his retirement community. Two years ago, Denny and Sandy sold their townhouse in Ankeny, IA and bought a park model at Casa Grande, Arizona. They have met so many new friends and have enjoyed their winters there the past two years. They now split their time between Cutty’s Resort in Okoboji, IA, where they have been volunteers for the past 7 years, and Fiesta Grande in Casa Grande, Arizona.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Sandy; daughters, Kari Alexander, Waukee, IA, and Angela Appeldorn, Scottsdale, AZ; son, Brent Appeldorn (Brooke), Waukee, IA.; and five beautiful grandchildren.

Denny is now reunited in Heaven with his parents and sister, Sandy.
