William Frick, the son of Charlie and Dora Buckwoldt Frick, was born September 12, 1888 at Walcott in Scott County, Iowa. He passed away at Hartley, Iowa, on July 27, 1964, following a brief illness and hospitalization of about a month He had reached the age of 75 years, 10 months, and 15 days.
His early boyhood was spent in Scott County, and he came with his parents to O'Brien County at the age of nine. He attended the public schools near Hartley.
On December 10, 1919, he was united in marriage to Lena Mary Meehlhause at her parents' home near Hartley. To them were born five children. The family farmed near Hartley until 1949 at which time Mr. and Mrs. Frick moved into town and he retired from active farm work.
He was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ here.
Having served his country during the first World War, both overseas and at home, he was also a member of the American Legion, the Arthur Kirchoff post No. 288 of Hartley.
Preceding him in death were his parents; one daughter, Mary June; and one son, Lester Edward; also two infant brothers.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Lena; his three sons, Eldred and Donald, both of Hartley, and Roger of Des Moines; five grandchildren; one brother, Ed Frick, and two sisters: Mrs. Herman Miller and Mrs. Lillie Selken, all of Hartley, as well as several nieces and nephews, other relatives, and a great many friends.
Services were held Thursday, July 30 at 2:00 pm at the trinity United Church of Christ with Rev. Lyle Kuehl officiating.
Military services were conducted by Arthur Kirchoff Post No 288 with Adolph Boetel, commander.
Mr. Frick enlisted at Primghar on July 23, 1918, and was discharged May 7, 1919, at Camp Dodge, Iowa. He served with the US Army as a Private with Comany B, 347th Machine Gun Battalion. He served with the AEF from September 19, 1918 to April 20, 1919.
Burial was made in Pleasant View Cemetery with Baumgarten Funeral home in charge of arrangements.
