John Miller, the son of Catherine and Barney Miller was born August 16, 1877 at Springbrook, Iowa and died Saturday morning September 22, 1962 at Nursing Home at Primghar following an illness. He was 85 years, 1 month, and 6 days of age. At the age of ten he moved with his parents to O'Brien County, IA. Mr Miller was united in marriage to Nora Phipps February 16, 1902. They were blessed with five sons and six daughters. The couple farmed northwest of Hartley until retiring when they moved to Milford February 3, 1951. Mr and Mrs Miller celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on February 16, 1962. Mr Miller was baptized in the Hartley Methodist Church and is a member of the Union Memorial Church at Milford. Survivors include his wife Nora, three sons Bernard and David of Tujunga, California and Joe of Milford; six daughters, Mrs. Marienus DeBoom (Eunice) of Avoca, Minn., Mrs Chet Fahlenkamp (Eulla) of Spirit Lake, Mrs Lester Woltersdorf (Katherine) of Melvin, Mrs James Streufert (Rozaire) of Sutherland, Mrs Ray Kaiser (Betty Lu) of Milford, Mrs Dale Heikens (Virginia) of Spencer; 22 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, a brother Ed of Hartley, a sister Anna Wilkison of Fulda, Minn., Mrs Mary Miller of Storm Lake and a host of friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers: Frank, Chris, and William; three sisters: Mrs. Kate Maronda, Mrs Elizabeth Hoover, and Miss Marie Miller; two sons: John Chris in infancy and John Phipps. Funeral services were conducted from Union Memorial Church Tuesday afternoon September 25 with the Rev. John Kirby officiating. Leyson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements with interment made in North Lawn Cemetery Spencer. Grandsons acting as pallbearers were Gene Fahlenkamp, Adrian DeBoom, Jimmy Streufert, Kermit De Boom, Marlo Lindstrom, and Carl Griese.
