Josiah Walker "Silas" Rummells, Jr was born on 12 Oct 1869, in York, York, PA to Jospiah Walker and Amanda (Squibb) Rummells, Sr.
He married Della Mae Coyner, daughter of Alexander and Emma Jane (Elder) Coyner on 28 Sep 1893, in Nichols, Muscatine, IA.
They had 6 children: Amanda Emma 1898-1988 (Harry Eugene Shannon); Harolde Josiah 1894-1990 (Elsie C Pratt and Mary Wagner); Helen Marie 1904-1988 (Eugene H Borchardt); Edna Mae 1908-1992 (Walter TeStrake, Sr); Howard Walker 1909-1968; and Dorthea Irene 1915- (Hubert Erwin Tipton).
He moved to Muscatine county, IA, about 1880. He was an undertaker, general merchandise store owner with his father, hotel owner, and cabbage grower. He was a president of the Iowa Vegetable Grower's Association and know as the "Cabbage King of Iowa" in the 1916-1917 era.
He was my maternal great grandfather, and I fondly remember him from visits to their home in Nichols, while I was growing up. He died on 22 Nov 1956 in an Iowa City hospital and is buried in the Nichols Cemetery.
