Company M. Soldier Sends
a Trophy of the War
~
RED OAK, Ia. July 6 – Mechanic Russel Elwood of Company M. in a letter told of sending home a German mask. It arrived this week and is now on display. It is a well-made mask, the leather being sealed at the seams to keep out the poisonous gases. The mask was sent just as it was when picked up from the field in France, but there was no comment on how it was secured.
