Nordquist, S.C., merchant -- Red Oak -- born 16 Aug., 1858, in Tidesrum, Östergötland, Sweden.

At the age of ten he came with his parents from his native land directly to Burlington, Iowa, where the family remained for five years, then moved to Mongomery county, being among the earliest settlers in what is now a very large Swedish settlement.

Young Nordquist worked on his father's farm during the summers, and attended school during the winter time, until nineteen years of age; then moved to Red Oak, where he clerked for fifteen years, and in 1892 he opened up a clothing store, doing now a business of about $25,000 annually, being the only Swedish clothier in the city.

Nordquist has been vice-president and one of the directors of Red Oak Building and Savings Association; is also a prominent member of I.O.O.F., having served three terms as captain of the uniformed P.M., the highest degree of that order; and is a member of the Swedish Luthern church, having been trustee and treasurer of his home congregation for several years. He affiliates with the Republican party, and has taken quite an active part in local affairs, having served one year as secretary of the county central committee.

In 1883 he was married to Hattie Swan, of Burlington, Iowa. They have one daughter.
