William D. Smyser, 54, a native of Albia, died Thursday at Mercy Hospital in Davenport.
Funeral services were held in Davenport and burial was in the National Park Cemetery at the Rock Island Arsenal.
He was born Jan. 21, 1924, in Albia, the son of William P. and Grace M. Smyser. He married Mary E. Jones in 1946 in Davenport.
Mr. Smyser was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army. He had been employed at the Rock Island Arsenal for the past 28 years.
Surviving are his widow; two daughters, Mrs. Donald (Kay) Loftuf of Rockford, Ill., and Debra at home; three sons, William, Thomas, and Joseph, all at home; a granddaughter; and two sisters, Arlene Blomgren of Albia and Patricia Downs of California.
A memorial payable to the American Cancer Society has been established.
