Vernon LeRoy was born August 22, 1944 in Onawa, Iowa the son of Howard and Marie (Linscott) Myers. He was raised in Onawa and graduated in 1964. Vern was a jack-of-all-trades. He farmed alongside his father, worked at a local gas station, and retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier. Even after retiring, he continued to farm and started Myers Rental, a business he took great pride in. Vern was deeply rooted in his community and always had a friendly word or a helpful hand for those around him.

Vern was known for his strong work ethic and his unwavering sense of humor. His stories were legendary, especially the ones about “the good ol’ days” when he walked uphill both ways in 10 feet of snow to get to work. He often shared these tales with a twinkle in his eye, reminding everyone of the value of hard work and resilience.

Above all, Vern’s greatest love was his family. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Kyla Myers from Aurelia, Iowa, with whom he shared a life filled with love, laughter, and joy since 2012. Together, they raised a blended family that brought Vern immense pride. He was a loving father to Rhonda Ferris (Scott Butler) of Onawa, Iowa, Victoria (Mike) Pasch of Onawa, Iowa, Johnny (Carissa) Holton of Sioux City, Iowa, Jenny (Adam) Paulsen of Des Moines, Iowa, Cody Holton of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Courtney (David) Anderson of Merrill, Iowa, Cole (Samantha) Holton of Jacksonville, Florida, Shawn Holton (Anny Hoebelheinrich) of Le Mars, Iowa, Travis Holton of Mason City, Iowa, and Jordan Holton of Onawa, Iowa, whom Vern affectionately called “Big Daddy.”

Vern was also a proud grandfather and great-grandfather. His grandchildren—Dustin Fegenbush (and children David, Dylan, and Piper), Bradley Ferris (and son Samuel), Douglas Ferris (and daughter Hailey), Christopher Fegenbush (Kristin Purgettand sons CJ and Mavrick), Andrew Pasch, Rebecca and Blake Grobe (and children Rylie and Tucker), Jared and Marisa Pasch (and daughter Violet), and Nathan Bonham—will always remember the joy Vern brought to their lives. His great-grandchildren, Emma and Jack, Wesley, Jameson and Emmett, and Zelaina, were the apples of his eye.

He is survived by his loving wife, Kyla Myers, his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and his extended family, all of whom will continue to carry his legacy of resilience, hard work, and love for life.

Vern was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Marie Myers; his sister, Merdel Berens; his brother-in-law, Edward Berens; his first wife, Colleen Myers; and his daughter, Beth Fegenbush. He was also preceded by his father-in-law, Jack Coombs; mother-in-law, Georgia Rounds; and father-in-law, David Rounds.

Vern’s life will be remembered for his deep love of family, his unmatched work ethic, and his hearty laughter that could light up a room. He had a unique ability to make every gathering feel special, whether through his stories, his generosity, or his undeniable presence.

Vern will be dearly missed, but his legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
