5 February 2025James “Farmer” Jensen, 76, of Onawa, Iowa passed away unexpectedly on Friday, January 31, 2025 at his home.
A funeral service will be 10:30 A.M. Friday, February 7, 2025 at Castana Community Church U.C.C., Castana, Iowa, with Pastor Linda Boggs, officiating. A recording of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with James’ obituary. Burial will follow in the Kennebec Cemetery, Castana, Iowa. A visitation will be 5:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. Thursday, February 6, 2025 at the Goslar Funeral Home Chapel, Onawa, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.
James Wayland was born February 8, 1948 in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Maurice and Charlotte (Parr) Jensen. He attended school at Maple Valley and graduated with the class of 1966. He furthered his education at Iowa State University and graduated in 1970 with an agricultural degree. James enjoyed farming for many years and obtained his nickname “Farmer”.
James and Wanda Gamet were united into marriage July 28, 1973 in Onawa, Iowa. To this union two children were born, Laura and David. Wanda passed away August 16, 1990.
James and Barbara Taylor were united into marriage March 3, 1995 in Onawa, Iowa. Farmer loved traveling and spending time with Barb. He enjoyed collecting antiques and keeping his lawn “Top Notch”. Farmer never missed “Happy Hour” at the Onawa Country Club.
Farmer was a member of the Maple Valley School Board from 1983 – 1988, Monona County Auditor’s Office, Monona County Supervisor and the REC Board for several years.
Survivors include his children, Laura (Brent) Streck of Mapleton, Iowa, David (Sheri) Jensen of Castana, Iowa, Susie Taylor of Omaha, Nebraska, and Amy (Clint) Walker of Turin, Iowa; grandchildren, Ethan Streck, Wyatt Streck, and Natalie Streck all of Mapleton, Iowa, Bradley Jensen, Haley Jensen, and Austin Jensen all of Castana, Iowa, Hunter (Makenzie) Davis of Whiting, Iowa, Elisa Davis of Omaha, Nebraska, Elijah Horton of Omaha, Nebraska, Belle Walker, Noah Walker, and Noelle Walker all of Turin, Iowa; one great-grandchild on the way; three sisters, Karen Jones of Wakefield, Nebraska, Rita (Merrill) Hawthorne of Farnhamville, Iowa, twin sister, Janet (Mike) Erwin of New Virginia, Iowa; sister-in-law, Wynelle Tolen of Omaha, Nebraska; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife’s, Wanda (Gamet) Jensen and Barbara (Siebrecht) Jensen; parents, Maurice and Charlotte (Parr) Jensen; brother, Maurice “Sonny” Jensen; and parents-in-law, Herb and Katherine Gamet.
