24 October 2024Donald “Donnie” Bollig, 68, of Smithland, Iowa, formerly of Hot Springs, South Dakota, passed away Thursday, October 17, 2024 at his residence surrounded by his family.
A memorial graveside service will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, October 24, 2024 at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Mapleton, Iowa with Father William A. McCarthy, Celebrant, officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the United States Marine Corps and the Loren Hollister American Legion Post #496 of Mapleton, Iowa. A live stream of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Donnie’s obituary. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.
Donald Leo Bollig was born January 31, 1956 in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Leo and Phyllis “JoAnn” (Mack) Bollig. He grew up in Mapleton and attended Maple Valley High School with the class of 1974. He joined the United States Marine Corp in 1975 and was honorably discharged in 1976.
Donnie resided in Hot Springs, South Dakota for thirty years, then recently moved to Smithland, Iowa. He would travel back and forth to help his brother Kirk on the farm with the crops in the spring and fall. Donnie enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing, and motorcycles.
Survivors include his siblings, Kirk Leland Bollig of Mapleton, Iowa, Eugene Joseph (special friend, Kevin Long) Bollig of Timber Lake, South Dakota, Galen Francis (Bonnie) Bollig of Smithland, Iowa, and Karen Kay (Kelly) Reed of Sioux City, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Phyllis “JoAnn” (Mack) Bollig; paternal grandparents, Joseph and Rachel (Livermore) Bollig; and maternal grandparents, John and Mary (Carson) Mack.
