TROUBLE AT UTE
~
LITTLE TOWN IS ALL ASTIR
OVER A BIG SENSATION
~
Ute, July 1. – The town of Ute is greatly wrought up over a scandal that has involved two of the most prominent families in the community. The affair happened several days ago and an attempt was made to hush matters up. The parties, however, have begun an action in court and the details of the incident have become public. Richard Palmer is a wealthy and respected resident of this town, proprietor of the bank here for many years and has a large family. For some time he has suspected that the relationship existing between his wife and Charles Harms, a man engaged in the general merchandise business here, were not always proper. A few night since, Palmer suspected his wife and Harm were together. Mr. Palmer went to Harem’s house and getting Mrs. Harem to accompany him, the two went to a large warehouse belonging to Harm and where it was suspected the guilty pair were located. When Mrs. Harm rapped on the door and asked for admission, Mr. Harm appeared and while in conversation with his wife, Mrs. Palmer escaped through another door, running directly against Mr. Palmer’s loaded fist, which never stopped swinging until the screams of the woman brought the city marshal, who separated the parties, to find that Mrs. Palmer was quite severely pounded and needed the attendance of a physician. Mr. Harm has not been seen or heard of since, and yesterday a searching party was out on the banks of the river, fearing he may have committed suicide.

The last name of “Harm” is spelled differently throughout the article.
