OSAGE, IOWA - Ida Veronica Novotny, 90, died Friday (Dec. 24, 1999) at the Osage Rehabilitation and Health Care Center after a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Osage, with the Rev. Philip Recker officiating. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Osage.
Visitation will be held from 2:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Champion Funeral Home, Osage, with a rosary beginning at 3 p.m. and a scripture service at 7 p.m.
Ida was born Dec. 9, 1909, in Mitchell County, the daughter of John and Sophia (Braun) Pint.
She was united in marriage to John L. (Jack) Novotny on Feb. 14, 1932. They lived their entire married life in Osage.
Ida worked many years as the bookkeeper for Cedar Valley Produce. After her retirement she was active in Senior Citizens, delivered Meals on Wheels and volunteered at the local food bank.
She enjoyed her flower garden and traveling with the Senior Citizens. In her later years she read voraciously and looked forward to her weekly "500" card games. She was lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Ida is survived by four daughters, Dolores Grovier and her husband, Jack, of Des Moines, Nancy Hess and her husband, Robert, of Kansas City, Mo., Sandra Klosterman and her husband, Larry, of Davenport, and Sheila Freeman and her husband, Berle, Menomonee Falls, Wis.; five grandchildren; and one great grandson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Jack, in 1983; and 12 brothers and sisters.
