SILVER CITY - Fredrich J. Techau Sr. died Thursday afternoon at a local hospital following a long illness. He was 81.
Born in Hamburg, Germany, Mr. Techau came to the U.S. in 1909 with his parents and settled in the Mineola area. For the past 50 years he lived on the same farm in the Silver City area.
Mr. Techau was a member of the Farm Bureau, the Silver City/Mineola Senior Citizens, and the St. John Lutheran Church of Mineola. He also served on the City Council in Silver City.
Mr. Techau and his wife, Anna, celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary in February.
Also surviving are a son, Fred of Silver City: two daughters, Mrs. William (Betty) Lay of Council Bluffs and Mrs. Gerald (Lenora) Stogdill of Silver City; two brothers, Henry of Council Bluffs and Nick of Glenwood; four sisters, Olga Vogt, Ella Techau and Anita Fox, all of Council Bluffs, and Audrey Knight of Cedar Rapids; nine grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. John Lutheran Church in Mineola. The Rev. Donald Wilkowski, pastor of the church, will officiate. Burial will be in Mineola Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Raynor Funeral Home in Glenwood.
Memorials may be made to St. John Lutheran Church or the Silver City Ambulance Fund.
