William Dale Kennedy went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, October 31, 2011. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Lorraine, his parents, Jacob and Theda Kennedy, brothers Emerald, Ed, and Sid; sisters Fern Cochran and Louise Kessler; and a great grandson, Micah Kennedy.
Dale was born in Sheldon, Iowa on June 18, 1920. Surviving is his loving family: daughter Mary Beth Boyce (Ron); son David Dale Kennedy (Chris); son John Edward Kennedy; son Daniel Roy Kennedy (Margie); 12 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
Dale and Mary Lorraine were married in 1944 while Dale was on a short leave from service in the Navy. Dale served as a tailgunner/radioman on a torpedo plane in the Pacific. After the war, Dale finished his college education at Iowa State University and began a career in teaching junior high mathematics. He taught in Murray for a short while, and then for 30 years in the Des Moines Public School System, at Franklin, Merrill, Amos Hiatt, and Brody. Dale also taught the JOY Adult Class at First Federated Church for many years and was an Elder in the Church.
Dale desired that his body be donated to medical science. A later burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery close to Knoxville, Iowa.
A remembrance service will be held in Fellowship Hall at First Federated Church at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 5 with lunch following.
