Friday, 11 October 1985, Page 2Eugene Frank “Gene” Harper, 66, of 607 First Ave. E., died Thursday, Oct. 10, 1985, at Mahaska County Hospital. He was born July 21, 1919 at Eddyville, the son of Frank and Lela Whisel Harper.
Harper, a graduate of Eddyville High School, was united in marriage to Pauline Riggs on June 6, 1947 in Oskaloosa. Harper managed the Eddyville Sale Barn for many years, until leaving the sale barn in March of 1976. He was active in farming and raising livestock, and had a license to sell real estate since 1948. Harper was also a well known auctioneer at the time of his death.
A veteran of World War II, Harper was a member of the American Legion Post number 34, and the B.P.O.E. Lodge number 340, both of Oskaloosa.
He is survived by his wife, Pauline “Posie” of Oskaloosa; two sons, Steven and Jerry, both of Oskaloosa; one sister Mrs. Edith Lee of Oskaloosa, and one grandson.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the Newman Funeral Chapel with the Rev. William Main officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be accorded by the American Legion. Family members will be at the funeral home Friday night from 7-8 p.m. to great relatives and friends. A memorial has been established for the Shriner’s Crippled Children’s Hospital.
