Announces Engagement
Mr. and Mrs. Lee Murphy announce the approaching marriage of their daughter, Thelma, to H. Dwight Hinkle, son of Mr. and Mrs. Omar Hinkle. The marriage will take place at the First Christian church, December 24, 1939.

Miss Thelma Murphy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Murphy of Oskaloosa, was married to Dwight Hinkle, son of Mr. and Mrs. Omar Hnkle, of Oskaloosa, at the First Christian church at 4:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon, December 24, 1939. Rev. Edgar L. Knight performed the single ring ceremony. Attending the couple were Miss Grace Hooyer and John Black.
Wearing a floor length princess style, white velvet dress with train and finger tip veil, held in place with pink and white roses, the bride carried a bouquet of pink rosebuds and white sweet peas. Miss Hoover wore a floor-length blue taffeta dress and carried token roses with lavender sweet peas.
The church was decorated with lighted tapers flanked by ferns, poinsettias and evergreen. Miss Betty Wolf sang "Oh, Promise Me" and Miss Bernice Miller played Mendelssohn's "Wedding March" and "Recessional." Reception followed the ceremony at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Murphy.
Flower girl was Patricia Ann Hinkle, niece of the bridegroom, who wore a floor-length dress of pink organdy and carried a basket of mixed sweet peas. She was escorted by Frank Lee Hall, nephew of the bride. Phillip Wayne Hall was ring bearer and carried the ring on a white satin pillow.
Eighty guests attended the wedding with out-of-town guests, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Richmond, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Richmond, Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Cox and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Smith, Mrs. Florence Billings, Mr. and Mrs. James Pittman, Mr. and Mrs. John Hang of Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Naylor of Ottumwa.
Mrs. Hinkle was graduated from the Oskaloosa high school with the class of 1937 and has been employed by Union Monarch Laundry and Dry Cleaners. Mr. Hinkle was graduated from Oskaloosa high school with the class of 1931 and is employed at the Phillips 66 station at the corner of south First street and Second Avenue east. The couple will take an apartment immediately at 404 south Third street. (Likely the Oskaloosa Herald, 1939).
