This bride who on Wednesday was wed to Lewis Van Mersbergen, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. Van Mersbergen of Oskaloosa was the former Irene Van Ommen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. Van Ommen of New Sharon. The wedding took place at 1:30 p.m. at the home of the bride's parents.
The Wedding of Miss Irene Van Ommen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. Van Ommen of New Sharon, and Lewis M. Van Mersbergen son of Mr. and Mrs. A. Van Mersbergen of this city, was solemnized at 1:30 o'clock, Wedneday afternoon, January 5, 1938, at the home of the bride's parents.
Beneath an arch decorated in wedding colors of rose and white the couple took their vows, with Rev. W. Verhil of the Protestant Reformed church of this city performing the single ring service.
The bride was attired in a medium blue toned dress of street length. The trim was of white ruffled lace. She carried a matching lace handkerchief. Mr. Van Mersbergen wore an Oxford gray suit.
Miss Magdaline DeWolf played the wedding march from Wagner's "Lohengrin," after which Misses Henrietta, Lillian and Pearl Van Ommen, sisters of the bride, sang "Love," accompanied by Miss De Wolf.
Following the wedding a two course luncheon was served to 40 relatives and friends of the couple. The guests also remained for a reception in the evening. Mr. and Mrs. Van Mersbergen will be at home on a farm four miles east of Oskaloosa (Likely Oskaloosa Herald, 1938)
