July 4, 1937 — March 8, 2025

George Edward Eaton was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado on July 4, 1937, to Stella (Reid) and Albert Eaton. He passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by loved ones, on Saturday, March 8, 2025, in Winterset, Iowa, at the age of 87.

George was born and raised in Colorado Springs where he attended Colorado Springs High School and graduated in 1955. He went on to attend Colorado State University in Fort Collins, majoring in Industrial Arts. While in college, he worked as a production machinist and tool grinder for Woodward Governor Company. After completing his education, George spent 11 years teaching high school machine shop classes as a vocational education instructor in Fort Collins. During this time, he and his former spouse welcomed 5 children into the world: Debbie, Timothy, Judy, Georgette and John. In 1974, George began working as a total room machinist for Adolph Coors Co. in Golden, Colorado. Throughout his years there, he became proficient in multiple areas including stamping tool and brewery equipment fabrication. While working for Coors, he met the light of his life. On April 30, 1981, he was united in marriage to Jo Ellen (EfKamp) at the Arvada Christian Church in Arvada, Colorado. Together they made their home in Arvada while raising Deborah Sue and John Erik. Through the years, they enjoyed spending time with family and friends playing cards, bowling on the Coors league and boating but most of all, they loved indulging in the company of each other while fishing and traveling. After retiring from Adolph Coors in 1999, they moved to Iowa fulfilling George’s cowboy dream of spending his golden years in the peace and beauty of the countryside. It was here they built a home and life they adored and spent years landscaping and performing home improvement projects together. If they couldn’t be found on the farm celebrating with picnics or barbeques and fishing, they could likely be found at church or engaging in church activities like working the food pantry. George was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Winterset and cherished the friendships he built through his faith. He was also a member of “the boys club” at the Madison County Hospital.

George often reminisced of his years in Colorado but always shared he was his happiest in Iowa away from the hustle and bustle of the big city. His favorite place to be was outdoors on the farm and for many years, his beloved dog, Cricket could be found tagging along close by. He loved his family unconditionally and especially adored his grandchildren. He never missed an opportunity to brag about them to anyone who would listen and always included adorning messages and memories in every birthday or greeting card that was mailed out.

His life was truly a blessing and his memory now a treasure. He was loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure.

He was welcomed into eternal life by his parents, Stella and Albert Eaton; sons, Timothy Eaton and John Erik; daughter, Debbie Eaton; brother, Johnny Eaton; sisters, Barbara DeWitt and Judy Wester; and beloved dog, Cricket.

He is survived by his wife, Jo Ellen Eaton; son, John Eaton; daughters, Judy (Mike) Deal, Georgette (Greg) Clucus, and Deborah Stuchel; sister, Patricia Lindt; 5 grandchildren, Sarah (David) McCarty, Kristina (Nathan) Fritz, Bobby Deal, Jessica (Larry) Mathiews, and Nicholas Bowlby; 6 great grandchildren, Haper McCarty, Ava and Ethan Fritz, Aliyah and Payton Mathiews, and Damian Bowlby; and other relatives and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made to the George Eaton Memorial Fund to be established by family at a later date.
