Glen Wallace Sherwood
February 28, 1924 - July 9, 2014

Following a short but courageously fought battle with cancer, Glen Wallace Sherwood passed away peacefully with family by his side on Wednesday, July 9, in Puyallup, WA. Born February 23, 1924 in Winterset, Iowa his family moved to WA during the Great Depression. Upon graduation from Selah High School in 1942, he enlisted and served in the U.S. Navy where he served aboard the USS Guardfish in the South Pacific theatre until December 1945.

In 1946 he met and married Imogene (Lewis) “Gene” in 1947. To this union was born 4 daughters: Judith (Ed Chesnut), Mary Kay, Kathryn (Hudson), Jane (David Eidsaune), and one son, Robert Glen. In addition are 4 grandchildren: Tracy Hudson Lund (James), Matthew Chesnut (Lora), Michael Eidsaune (Christine), and Mark Eidsaune. Four great-grandchildren: Delaney and Hazel Chesnut, and Everett and Bennett Eidsaune. One sibling, Lois Cummings of Yakima and many nieces and nephews survive him.

He enrolled at Washington State College in 1946 and graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering in 1952. From that day on he was a lifelong Cougar. The next 40 years plus were spent working as a City Engineer, Public Works Director, or other engineering work for Pullman, Kent, Sumner, and Parametrics. He enjoyed his work and his coworkers until his retirement. He developed friendships at college and work that lasted a lifetime.

Glen had many interests. He was a 58-year member of Kent First Presbyterian Church and a 40-year member of Sumner Rotary Club. He was an avid gardener; proud of his roses, apples, potatoes and dahlias. Glen love vacationing with family and friends, and join yearly trips to Hawaii and Sunriver, Oregon. This year be celebrated his 90th birthday by playing golf in taking an airplane flight over the Big Island.

Memorial arrangements are as follows: A Viewing: Marlatt Mortuary, Kent, WA, July 15, 5:00-8:00 p.m.; Burial with Military honors: West Hills Memorial Park, Yakima July 18, 11:00 a.m.; Memorial Service: First Presbyterian Church, Kent, WA July 25, 1:00 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Bell Tower Fund, or the Rotary Club Paul Harris Scholarship Fund.
