G. W. “Bill” Bindel, age 84, of Pocahontas, passed away Monday, September 30, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Society Home in Manson, Iowa.
George William Bindel was born July 13, 1940, in Brown County, Kansas, to Ruth Evelina (Mink) and George Phillip Bindel. He attended Jackson #6 Township Country School through 8th grade and graduated from Winterset High School.
Bill married Jacqualine Ann Baxter on November 23, 1963, at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Emmetsburg, Iowa. The couple made their home in Emmetsburg until they moved to Pocahontas in 1965.
Bill was employed by New York Life and Pocahontas REC. The career he loved most was a self-employed owner operator for Bindel Trucking. Bill loved driving truck and was still driving at the age of 80.
A veteran, Bill served in the Air National Guard and the Army Reserves. Bill served 23 years, retiring as an E6 Staff Sergeant. He served on active duty in the Army for Desert Shield and Desert Storm.
Bill was a member of Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church and the American Legion. He enjoyed spending time with family, cooking (and eating) good food, participating in activities at Arlington Place, and playing cribbage. Bill was instrumental in forming the Moving On Group after taking a grief class following the loss of Jacky.
Survivors include his children, Troy (Melinda) Bindel of Humboldt, Todd (Joan) Bindel of Ankeny, Thad “T.J.” (Vonda) Bindel of Pocahontas and Tyler (Katy) Bindel of Gilmore City; 14 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; special friend, Ginger Ernst; his sisters, Katherine “Kate” Hartman of Winterset, Mary Kinney of Griswold; brother, Jim (Charis) Bindel of Winterset; sister-in-law, Connie Bindel of Winterset, and many special nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Jacky; his parents; brother, Paul Bindel; infant twin brothers, and brothers-in-law, Dale Hartman and Gary Kinney.
