Obituaries - Wilma Maxine Toulson

NEWARK, DE - Wilma M. Toulson was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She left this world on November 13, 2022 at age 98.

Wilma was born in 1924 in Madison County, Iowa to the late Frank and Essie Jorgensen. A farm girl, she would compete and show her calves at 4H competitions.

Wilma’s elementary education began in a one-room country schoolhouse and her high school education would include a long trip of twenty miles each way every school day. Wilma continued her education at the Nebraska Methodist School of Nursing at Omaha, Nebraska, graduating as a Registered Nurse.

Wilma was a veteran of the United States Navy. She served three years during World War II as a Registered Nurse at the United States Naval Hospital in Annapolis Maryland and achieved the rank of Ensign.

Wilma was employed and work many years at the General Division Hospital in Wilmington and helped open the Christmas Care Hospital, Newark campus. She retired in 1993.

She was preceded in death by her son, Greg Michael Toulson; her brother, Keith Jorgensen and his wife, Judy.

Wilma is survived by her daughters, Debra Nuss and husband John Nuss of Newark, DE, Jodi Lloyd and husband John Lloyd of Odessa, DE; son, Todd Toulson and wife Karen Toulson of Hockessin, DE; grandchildren, Andrew Webber of Smyrna, DE, Sean Warrington and wife Casey Warrington of North East MD, Matthew Webber of Parkton, MD, Mallorie Toulson of Hockessin, DE, Greg Toulson and fiancée Caitlyn Brooks of Townsend, DE; sister, Betty White and husband Robert White of Panora, Iowa. She is also survived by her many beloved great-grandchildren, a niece and many nephews; godson, Erik Bergstrom; beloved friends, Skyler Pilla, Paul Baiocco, and Henry Webber; and Wilma’s many special and cherished furry friends who brought her great joy.

Visitation and interment will be private. Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at noon at St. James Mill Creek Episcopal Church, 2106 St. James Church Rd., Wilmington, DE.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
